What is Carbon Monoxide

Carbon monoxide is a product of the incomplete combustion of organic fuels (coal, oil, wood, fuels).
It is an odorless, colorless, tasteless and poisonous gas. It is toxic because by binding firmly to the iron atoms in the hemoglobin of the blood it forms a much more stable complex than that formed by oxygen. Carbon monoxide detectors (also known as CO) are life-saving devices capable of detecting the presence of carbon monoxide inside an environment, alerting through an acoustic alarm when levels become excessive and dangerous.

Once the alarm is triggered, however, it is up to the occupants of the rooms to immediately implement all the necessary procedures to lower the levels to normal, ventilating the premises and working on the causes that created the state of danger. Obviously, in the absence of people, the premises will also become saturated with carbon monoxide.

The CO detector should be installed vertically on a wall, making sure there are no obstructions and that there is easy access to the detector. It is of fundamental importance that the acoustic alarm is always well audible, therefore always keep this aspect in mind. It is recommended to install a detector in any environment where there are potential sources of CO (boiler room, garage, or where there are fireplaces and stoves that burn fuel). For general and indicative purposes, these devices must be installed in the room to be manned, at about 20/30 cm from the ceiling (since carbon monoxide is lighter than air tends to rise), no more than a couple of meters from the possible source. of pollution and away from drafts that could distort the detection.
